Kliniken Ostalb 2035: Revolutionary plans for health and mobility!

The administrative board of the Ostalb Clinics has decided on an important step towards implementing the 2035 future concept. One focus is on the creation of a new outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation facility at the Ellwangen location, which is expected to be established in 2026. This is part of the effort to ensure high-quality follow-up care for patients at the endoprosthetics center in Mutlangen. The outpatient rehabilitation will be specifically aimed at the aftercare of patients after hip and knee endoprostheses as well as spinal diseases in order to promote their mobility and quality of life and to support a return to everyday life. Schwäbische Post reports that the endoprosthetics consultation remains in Ellwangen.

The resolution for the future concept was approved by a clear majority in the district council in September 2024. A central element of the implementation is the Ostalb Health Academy, which will move to new premises at EATA GmbH in Ellwangen from January 1, 2026. The move became necessary to meet the renovation needs of the current buildings. The new premises also offer long-term development prospects and attractive conditions for recruiting young talent, as explained on kliniken-ostalb.de.

A new regional supplier in Essingen

As part of the future concept, it was also decided to start a Europe-wide procurement process for the property planning and project management of a new regional supplier in Essingen. On June 24, 2025, the district council approved the central procurement procedures for the new building project, which is considered a key component of the clinic strategy. In order to select a suitable property planner, an architectural competition was launched, the results of which are to be evaluated by January 2026. The evaluation of the designs is the responsibility of an interdisciplinary selection committee headed by Wolfgang Riehle.

In addition, the urology department is expected to be relocated to Mutlangen in April 2026, with the position of chief physician being filled. Dr. Cristian Capatana has been appointed as the new chief physician of general radiology and neuroradiology in Aalen, while Dr. Susanne Müller becomes the chief physician of neurology in Aalen. These personnel changes are intended to further strengthen medical care in the region.

The Ostalb Clinics are facing an exciting phase of restructuring and further development, which will make a significant contribution to ensuring hospital care in the Ostalb district.
