Michelle Weiß celebrates a glorious return to Werder Bremen!

The football world is marked by an important return: Michelle Weiß is moving from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim back to Werder Bremen. The 24-year-old defender, who was already active for Werder from 2021 to 2024, played ten competitive games for Hoffenheim last season and is now looking forward to another challenge in the Bundesliga. “I am grateful for the experience I have gained and my personal development,” said Weiß, who made her competitive debut for Hoffenheim in September 2024 when the team defeated SV Hegnach 7-0.

In her first phase at Werder Bremen, Weiß played a total of 40 times in the Bundesliga. Their commitment and performances on the pitch have been well received by fans. For her, returning to Bremen, where she has already spent a significant amount of time, represents a return to her roots. Last season she eagerly followed the games of her former team and was proud of the successes she experienced.

Contract extension and success in sports

Parallel to Weiß's move, Philipp Klewin remains at Hansa Rostock, whose contract was recently extended. The 31-year-old goalkeeper, who moved from VfB Lübeck to Hansa Rostock last summer, was able to establish himself as a valuable team member last season, although he mostly acted as a substitute behind Benjamin Uphoff.

In the field of judo, Miriam Butkereit distinguished herself with her outstanding performance at the Judo World Championships in Budapest. She won the bronze medal in the 70 kilogram class after being eliminated in the quarterfinals by eventual winner Shiho Tanaka from Japan. Butkereit’s success contributes to the positive balance of German judo sport.

Tennis and mixed competition

Tatjana Maria has established herself as the new German number one in tennis and will compete for the first time at the WTA tournament in Hamburg, which takes place from July 13th to 20th. Eva Lys, her predecessor, will also take part in the tournament, which enriches the German tennis landscape. At the US Open, Alexander Zverev will compete in the mixed doubles competition, together with the Swiss Belinda Bencic. The reformed competition offers attractive prize money of one million dollars for the winning couple. There is great interest as nine of the current top 10 players will take part in the exciting event.

Overall, the current developments in German sport, be it through changes, contract extensions or notable successes, offer a fascinating insight into the dynamics and diversity of the sporting landscape. The coming months promise exciting challenges and further highlights.
