Vaihingen May Day 2025: Ferris wheel, free buses and more safety!

May Day takes place in Vaihingen from Friday to Tuesday, and this year the organizers are celebrating a special comeback: a Ferris wheel will be set up for the first time in almost a decade. The festival, which is celebrated on Whitsun weekend, is expecting around 50,000 guests, including around 30,000 for the traditional parade on Whit Monday, which begins at 10:30 a.m. The parade is based on the famous character Pippi Longstocking, with the motto “We’ve never tried this before, so it’ll probably be good.”

Visitors can look forward to free bus travel during all festive periods. This year, too, there is an alcohol ban for the approximately 2,500 participants in the parade, while visitors are still allowed to consume alcohol. The highlight of the festival is the parade that ends at the roundabout at Egelsee. This is followed by the Rondellfest, at which student Leah Henkel will give a speech. In addition, 33 participants from the Hungarian sister city of Köszeg are expected. The closing ceremony will take place on Monday at 7 p.m. on the market square and will be accompanied by Emperor Charles V and his wife. Mayor Uwe Skrzypek will also honor deserving personalities.

Security concept and risk reduction

In view of the events of recent years, the Vaihingen city administration has strengthened the security concept for May Day. According to reports from vkz.de, there are plans to double the number of security forces and install additional bollards to prevent possible rampages. The head of the public order office, Florian Volz, emphasizes that there cannot be 100 percent protection against attacks, but the presence of emergency services should strengthen the visitors' feeling of security without causing unrest.

To increase the level of security, mobile barriers are also used on access roads. These measures are implemented in close coordination with the local police station. A certain level of security should also be guaranteed in a weapons and knife ban zone on the festival grounds on Walter-de-Pay-Straße. However, detailed information about the security measures is not made publicly available in order not to encourage potential attacks. and vkz.de report on these measures, which aim to create a safe environment for all participants.

Vaihingen May Day promises an extraordinary celebration with a successful mix of tradition and new experiences. The organizers and the city administration work hand in hand to ensure both the celebratory character and the safety of the event.
