On Wednesday evening, June 4, 2025, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) will make his first official inaugural visit to Washington. This meeting with US President Donald Trump is of great importance and is already eagerly awaited, as it is the first face-to-face meeting between the two since Merz took office four weeks ago. The agreement for a direct exchange comes after several telephone conversations that Merz has had with Trump in recent weeks.
A joint lunch and a press meeting in the Oval Office are planned for Thursday. The exact time for the meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. CEST. The press conference is scheduled for around 6:45 p.m. CEST. Previous visits to the Oval Office have often resulted in scandals, such as those with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
