Hemmingen celebrates World Children's Day: Colorful celebration for children's rights!
On September 20, 2025, the city of Hemmingen celebrated another big celebration for World Children's Day after a seven-year break. The interruption of the celebrations was due to the corona pandemic and the celebrations of the last two years in Hemmingen. In midsummer temperatures, the festival took place in Arnum's Murowana-Goslina Park, where almost 40 stands from 32 clubs, associations and daycare centers were set up.
The motto of the event was “Into the future with children’s rights”, which underlines the relevance of children’s rights in today’s society. This is in line with the overarching theme of World Children's Day 2025, "Children's Rights - Building Blocks for Democracy!", which was formulated by UNICEF Germany and the German Children's Fund. These organizations emphasize how important it is for children and young people to know and understand their rights in order to actively shape democratic processes, especially in the election year of 2025 reports the German Children's Fund.
A colorful festival for children
Moderator Shirina Eisenfelder presented a varied program on a specially constructed stage. Performances by dance groups from the Arnum Sports Association, the Stage Perform drama school and the Hemmingen music school provided entertainment. Particularly noteworthy are the performances by the Spatzenchor, the Allinclusives wind orchestra and the band Fun 5.
During the festival, numerous children and young people were honored for their sporting successes over the past year. There were also many activities for the little visitors. The following attractions were particularly popular:
The importance of children's rights
As part of World Children's Day, UNICEF Germany and the German Children's Fund emphasize the need to include the concerns of children and young people more closely in political decisions. Christian Schneider, Managing Director of UNICEF Germany, emphasizes that investments in education and the support of disadvantaged young people are essential. In addition, Holger Hofmann, Federal Managing Director of the German Children's Fund, calls for consistent political initiatives for all generations.
World Children's Day is celebrated in over 145 countries after it was recommended by the United Nations in 1954. Children's rights, which have been guaranteed for every child by a UN convention since 1989, are the focus of the celebrations reports the HAZ.
The celebrations in Hemmingen not only highlighted the importance of World Children's Day, but also the need to give children and young people a voice. Given the current political situation, this is more important than ever to ensure that the rights of the younger generation are duly respected and promoted.
