Big celebration: Ludwigsburg opens new Arsenalplatz for everyone!
Arsenalplatz in Ludwigsburg was officially inaugurated on June 6, 2023, a new central meeting point in the city center. The ceremonial opening was led by Mayor Matthias Knecht, with Nicole Razavi, Minister for Regional Development and Housing, Regional Director Alexander Lahl and landscape architect Tobias Mann also present. This redesign marks a significant step in the region's urban transformation, with the focus on increasing the quality of stay instead of traffic use, as [ludwigsburg24.com](https://www.ludwigsburg24.com/ludwigsburg-hat-einen-neuen-platz-und-heute-wird-ge Feiert/) reports.
The space, previously used as a parking lot, was redesigned in spring 2023 and now covers a total area of 8,000 square meters. The planning was based on citizen participation, so that residents and interested parties could contribute their ideas in workshops and information boxes. The costs for the redesign amount to 4.8 million euros, with 1.2 million euros coming from the federal and state governments and 3.3 million euros from the city of Ludwigsburg. Financial support from the Stuttgart Region Association amounting to 340,000 euros completes the package.
A varied program for the inauguration
A festival took place on the opening day with music, dancing and various children's activities. The celebrations began at 11 a.m. with the opening of the “Café Little Prince” gastronomic pavilion. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the city administration offered insights into the history and development of the square. From 3 p.m. the band Valle de Luna and the Labyrinth art school entertained the guests. A DJ provided the musical entertainment for the evening, as ludwigsburg.de explained.
The celebrations continue on June 7th, with Café Kleiner Prinz opening again at 11am. During the day, artists from the street music festival and performances from the Labyrinth art school will perform, while a DJ will keep the atmosphere going from 4 p.m. until the evening hours.
Modern amenities and ecological aspects
In the future, Arsenalplatz will be used regularly for events such as concerts, after-work evenings and sporting activities. It offers a variety of seating options, including fixed benches and movable chairs. A fountain field with 20 water jets, two table tennis tables and a drinking fountain were also integrated.
The redesign also includes ecological measures, such as planting 41 new trees - including bluebells and bird cherry trees - that contribute to climate sustainability. The court surface is designed to absorb rainwater, and an irrigation cistern ensures sustainable maintenance of the facility.
Arsenalplatz is seen as a positive development in the city center of Ludwigsburg, offering residents and visitors an attractive space for leisure and exchange. The conversion of the square was made possible by building a new Sparkasse underground car park with 145 parking spaces, which meets the requirements of a modern city, as summarized in [ludwigsburg24.com](https://www.ludwigsburg24.com/ludwigsburg-hat-einen-neuen-platz-und-heute-wird-ge Feiert/).
