On Saturday afternoon, October 7, 2023, a fire broke out in an empty house on Hirschbergstrasse in the Eglosheim district of Ludwigsburg. The fire was discovered around 4:50 p.m. and originated in the roof structure of the former dormitory. Despite the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, the emergency services were initially unable to bring the flames under control.
Shortly after the alarm, several fire brigade units, rescue services and technical services arrived at the scene. Due to the particularly difficult circumstances, a construction company had to remove the damaged roof structure and the first floor with an excavator in order to fight the fire. The fire was finally extinguished around 11:15 p.m. A firefighter was slightly injured while extinguishing the fire and had to be taken to hospital. The material damage is estimated at around 300,000 euros. The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing and is being conducted at the Ludwigsburg police station. In addition to the fire department, the police, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) and the rescue service were also involved in the extinguishing work.
