The baroque jewel: Ludwigsburg Castle and the Blooming Garden Show!

The Ludwigsburg Royal Palace, located south of Stuttgart, is considered the largest surviving Baroque palace in Germany. It attracts around 800,000 visitors every year and impresses with its magnificent architecture and rich history. Duke Eberhard Ludwig had the impressive castle built between 1704 and 1733. With its 18 buildings and over 450 rooms, the castle is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a popular destination for those interested in culture and history. It is often referred to as the “Swabian Versailles” and offers a variety of guided tours and cultural events. The plans come from the Italian builder Donato Guiseppe Frisoni, who designed the castle.

Ludwigsburg itself was conceived as an ideal baroque city and has a central market square characterized by arcade houses and three churches. The castle also houses the Baroque Gallery, the Castle Theater, the Ceramics Museum and the Fashion Museum. Particularly noteworthy is the “Blooming Baroque”, Germany's oldest permanent garden show, which awaits visitors all year round around the castle. Here guests can enjoy a wonderful view of the castle gardens and discover numerous attractions.

Attractions in the Blooming Baroque

The “Blooming Baroque” is not just a botanical garden, but also a place full of experiences and events. Attractions include:

  • Märchengarten mit über 50 Märchen
  • Sardischer Garten mit Flamigo und Störchen
  • Alljährliche Kürbisausstellung mit überdimensionale Kürbisfiguren
  • Internationale Straßenmusikfestival und Lichterzauber mit Musikfeuerwerk

The pumpkin exhibition, which takes place for three months from September, is a popular highlight. Over 600 varieties of pumpkin are presented here, many of which are also culinary accessible. Entry to the fairytale garden and a boat trip on the fairytale stream are included in the price, which varies depending on the season.
