Festive Electoral Table attracts people to Bad Freienwalde with music and tradition!

The traditional Electoral Table will take place in Bad Freienwalde on June 1, 2025. This event, which takes place in the inner courtyard of the rehabilitation clinic, is organized by the Oberbarnim cultural association and the specialist clinic and mud bath. The Kurfürstentafel brings to life the historical atmosphere of the city, which is considered the oldest spa town in the Mark Brandenburg. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. when the stroll from the Kurmittelhaus to the Kurklinik starts.

Visitors can look forward to an impressive display of historical costumes, while personalities such as Queen Friederike Luise and the famous landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné stroll through the streets of Bad Freienwalde. During the event, the table guests and their relationships with the city will be introduced, highlighting the historical background and rich history of this region. The Bad Freienwalde junior orchestra and the band FluJam will provide the musical entertainment, while electoral food will be offered at numerous market stalls.

Insights and offers from the event

The Kurfürstentafel not only wants to celebrate the historical heritage, but also make the city's history come alive. Marco Büchel, chairman of the Oberbarnim cultural association, emphasizes that it is about maintaining the traditions and cultural roots of Bad Freienwalde. Guests can also get to know the Kurmittelhaus and its offerings from 11:00 a.m.

The history of Bad Freienwalde is closely linked to the Great Elector of Brandenburg, whose visit in 1684 marked the beginning of the spa and spa tradition. This tradition is still felt today, as Bad Freienwalde offers medicinal springs that contributed to the Elector's recovery. The dripping fountain in front of the town hall, a work by Horst Engelhardt, is a reminder of this tradition with the inscription “Refresh the soul, soothe the heart, you can have both in the bath”.

Historical personalities and their traces

Over the years, many well-known personalities have visited Bad Freienwalde and left their mark. These include Elector Dorothea von Holstein-Glücksburg, Walther Rathenau and the writer and psychoanalyst Hans Keilson. The latter was born in a historically important corner house on Uchtenhagenstrasse. His life's work and his fate reflect the city's long-standing history.

The preservation of the Georgenkirche, which has been used as a concert hall since 1986, testifies to the commitment of the Freienwalders to preserving their history and culture. This church was threatened with demolition during the GDR era. Other memorials, such as the 1947 flood commemoration, highlight the challenges the city has endured and the strength of its community.

The Electoral Table continues a further part of this living history by not only honoring the cultural heritage, but also actively experiencing it. Admission to the event is free, which allows participation for anyone interested.
