The ROOF ZELT FESTIVAL 2025, the largest event of its kind in the German-speaking region, took place in the picturesque town of Hameln from May 22nd to 25th, 2025. Under the motto “Festival of Roof Tent Nomads”, hundreds of campers from Germany and neighboring countries gathered to pursue their passion for camping and outdoor life. The venue, Alpha One Campground, provided a perfect setting for this special gathering of nature lovers and vanlife enthusiasts.

The festival attracted a variety of activities: In addition to live lectures and workshops dealing with roof tents, off-road adventures and the vanlife lifestyle, there were exhibitors who presented new products for campers. Particularly noteworthy is a children's adventure land, which offered even the youngest visitors unforgettable experiences.

The atmosphere of the festival was characterized by the exchange between the participants. Uwe Vollrath from Schwäbisch Hall is one of the visitors who presented his 45-year-old vehicle, a Citroën Acadiane, with a self-made roof tent. “The first night in the roof tent was a new experience,” he reported, adding that he is planning future trips via Slovenia, Turkey to Syria and even possibly India.

The festival not only offered visitors the opportunity to express their own creativity, but also to share tips and solutions with each other. Stefan Heinen from Einbeck, another festival visitor, prefers roof tents because they offer better contact with other campers. “Compared to motorhomes, I like the comfort and ease of use,” he explained.

Roof tents as a practical form of vacation

As part of the festival, camping was also highlighted as a natural and inexpensive form of holiday. Campfires, workshops and a diverse outdoor experience contributed to the relaxed atmosphere. Founder Thilo Vogel emphasized the festival's goal of bringing together people who share a passion for nature and the mobile lifestyle.
