Farewell tears and TSG defeat: an emotional home game for Hofherrnweiler
On June 2, 2025, the season in the association league for TSG Hofherrnweiler-Unterrombach ended with an emotional last home game against Schwäbisch Hall. The encounter took place under the eyes of around 30 fans who appeared in “Jo Rief Fan Club” shirts. Before kick-off, 13 players, including captain Jo Rief and other key players such as Jonas Christlieb, David Weisensee, Daniel Rembold and Hannes Borst, were ceremonially farewelled. These players were crucial in the promotion from the national league in 2019 and the farewell left tears among those present.
The game had no compelling significance for either team, as TSG was in sixth place and Schwäbisch Hall was in fifth place in the table. Nevertheless, the team took the opportunity to conduct some personnel experiments. The departing goalkeeper Jakob Pfleiderer was in the starting line-up, while U19 player David Palatzky played at the back on the right. The heat affected the game at the beginning, so both teams acted rather cautiously.
Game play
In the 21st minute, Günter Schmidt gave the guests a 1-0 lead before Azad Toptik increased the lead to 0-2 in the 32nd minute. After the half-time break, TSG had a few chances offensively, but still had to admit defeat. Toptik went one better in the 66th minute and made it 0-3. Daniel Rembold made it 1-3 in the 67th minute after an assist from Filipovic, but was unable to reduce the clear deficit. In the final minutes, Jakob Pfleiderer prevented a fourth goal in a one-on-one with a strong save. The atmospheric substitution of Rief, Rembold and Christlieb marked the end of a chapter for TSG.
The final goals of the game were as follows: 0:1 Schmidt (21st), 0:2 Toptik (32nd), 0:3 Toptik (66th) and 1:3 Rembold (67th). TSG has a tough task ahead of them next weekend when they face second-placed Holzhausen.
Season review and outlook
Hofherrnweiler had already lost 4-0 to league leaders Türkspor Neckarsulm. In that game, the TSG players fell behind early on thanks to goals from Mert Okar, Cristian Giles Sanchez, Gianluca Trianni and Ouadie Barini. Despite a shot off the post and some promising attacks, they were unable to score. Hannes Borst put in a solid performance in the starting lineup, but was substituted in the second half.
The coaching team, consisting of Patrick Faber and Bastian Heidenfelder, shuffled the line-up again at the end of the season and will aim to show better performance in the coming season. The focus is already on the next challenges and the desire to successfully replace some of the experienced players who are leaving the team.
