Fast cyclists and high cooling cell costs: dispute in the local council!

In Wessental, a citizen caused a stir when he pointed out the cyclists who were quickly entering the church path from the forest path by the cemetery. A missing sign for a 30 km/h zone in this area was raised. Mayor Henning assured that this point would be examined at the next traffic show, but expressed doubts that cyclists would adhere to the legally prescribed maximum speed. This showed the purpose of the 30 km/h zones that were introduced in many residential areas in Germany to calm traffic and increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists ADAC reported.

The legal basis for 30 km/h zones is based on Section 45 Paragraph 1c of the Road Traffic Act (StVO). These zones are typically located away from main roads where through traffic is low. The marking is carried out by traffic signs, with sign 274.1 indicating the beginning and sign 274.2 indicating the end of the zone. In these zones there are often no traffic lights or median markings and speed reduction can be supported by structural measures. Such a 30 km/h zone would also be conceivable in Wessental, provided the relevant requirements are met STVO2GO explained.

Financial aspects of the cold room

The greatly increased costs for using the cold storage cell in the cemetery were also discussed. The usage fee increases from 75 to 895 euros per day of use. The local council approved the calculation and the fee rates with a cost coverage of 90 percent. However, there are concerns that falling short of this coverage could have a negative impact on Freudenberg's funding. The citizen expressed doubts, while Henning contradicted these concerns.

Mayor Henning and local councilor Friesen also discussed the possible introduction of a horse tax, similar to the dog tax. Horses put a strain on paths and leave horse manure behind, which incurs additional maintenance costs. Friesen said that after administrative costs for the tax are deducted, there probably won't be enough money left for the budget.

Condition of the field paths and hunting association

The condition of the dirt roads was once again an ongoing issue. Henning regretted that there was a lack of funds for renovations, and Zöller added that quick repairs with gravel in potholes were not enough. It was also announced that a new lease period for hunting begins in April 2026. Regular proceedings with the hunting association are scheduled for the second half of 2025.

Another point was the power supply to the old water house, which the mayor Hildenbrand reported on. The Wertheim public utilities have turned off the electricity because the well is no longer part of the emergency water supply. Currently only the drinking water fountains in Boxtal and Freudenberg are included in this emergency supply.
