Castle Festival 2025: Female power on the Freudenberg stage!

On Saturday evening, June 15, 2025, the Freudenburg celebrated a successful production of the classic “Around the World in 80 Days” by Jules Verne with the premiere of the 2025 Castle Festival. This reports my-news.de. Around 400 spectators came to experience the entertaining and action-packed performance, which was presented by the Freudenberg Burgschauspielverein with amateur actors from different age groups.

The production, which is the 20th performance at the Freudenburg, will be shown on selected Fridays and Saturdays until July 5, 2025. The performances begin at 8:30 p.m. and last until 11:30 p.m., including a 30-minute intermission.

Theatrical reinterpretation

Dr. In his speech, Wolfgang Reinhart, the patron of the event, emphasized the cultural significance and the voluntary commitment of the performers. Jan-Markus Dieckmann, who edited the material, wanted to create a production that not only conveyed the plot of Jules Verne, but also addressed fundamental themes such as freedom, equality and justice.

What is particularly notable is the reinterpretation of female characters in this Freudenberger version. The role of the inspector is played by the spirited Katrin Nitz, while the character Miss Aouda, played by Nina Hoff, appears much more confident than in previous adaptations. In addition, a revolutionary-minded sister was introduced for the servant Passepartout (Aaron Scheiber) in order to underline the emancipatory approaches of the production.

Adventurous itinerary

The story follows the protagonist Phileas Fogg, played by Patrick Karch, who makes the daring bet to circumnavigate the world in just 80 days. He encounters numerous adventures in exotic countries such as Egypt, India, Hong Kong and America. His pursuer, Inspector Emmeline Fix, mistakes him for a bank robber. This exciting constellation creates numerous dramatic and humorous moments that also address parallels to today, such as everyday racism and social oppression, which are humorously unmasked in the production.

The impressive production thrilled the audience and was celebrated with long applause and a standing ovation. Integrated with circus elements, the story lived in a new light and created a connection between Verne's imaginative narrative style and modern issues.

The next performances of “Around the World in 80 Days” have already been decided and are part of a series of dramatizations of great literary material that the Burgschauspielverein is planning in the coming years, including works by Oscar Wilde and Victor Hugo reservix.de announced. Spectators can look forward to a varied program.
