Dangerous overtaking maneuver in Zweiflingen: Driver is urgently looking for witnesses!
On Wednesday evening, May 30, 2025, a dangerous overtaking maneuver occurred on the L1048 near Zweiflingen, which caused a dangerous situation for road users. At around 5 p.m., a 73-year-old driver of a Seat was driving from Forchtenberg towards Orendelsall when an unknown driver of a black SUV decided to overtake a column of around ten vehicles on the opposite lane. The Seat driver was only able to avoid a collision by braking hard and swerving onto the grass verge. In this context, the Öhringen police station is looking for witnesses to the incident and is asking for information on 07941 9300.
In addition, there was a traffic accident on the L1046 in Weißbach on Tuesday evening, around 6:15 p.m. Here, an unknown person lost wood on the road, causing an 18-year-old Mercedes driver to drive over it and damage her front right tire. In this case, too, the Künzelsau police station is asking for information from witnesses by calling 07940 9400.
Call for witnesses after a dangerous overtaking maneuver
A few weeks earlier, on April 9, 2025, a similar dangerous overtaking maneuver was reported. A gray Mercedes-Benz GLC with a Frankfurt license plate overtook several vehicles shortly before a blind curve between Hünfeld-Nüst and Mackenzell in the Fulda district. The driver of a truck team therefore had to brake sharply. A witness, a 60-year-old man from Hünfeld, reported the incident to the police. We are currently looking for other witnesses, especially the driver of the dark green car, who also had to brake sharply. The Hünfeld police are accepting tips.
These incidents have a broader context that is alarming. Every year thousands of people in the European Union lose their lives or are seriously injured in road accidents. According to a report by the European Parliament, the number of road deaths in Europe fell by 36 percent between 2010 and 2020. Nevertheless, these recent incidents illustrate that even today, grossly negligent behavior in traffic can have serious consequences.
Traffic accident statistics show that although the number of traffic fatalities has decreased in recent years, young drivers in the 18 to 24 age group are particularly at risk. This group accounted for 12 percent of traffic fatalities in 2018, despite only making up 8 percent of the population. What is particularly striking is that 76 percent of traffic fatalities are men, a pattern that can be observed in all EU member states.
This information highlights the importance of driving responsibly and prioritizing road safety at all times. The police urgently appeal to all road users to be attentive and considerate in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.
