Discover the Warnow: a paradise for water sports enthusiasts and nature fans!
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania delights those seeking relaxation close to nature, especially with the picturesque Warnow River. The approximately 150 kilometer long river stretches from its source to the mouth in Warnemünde into the Baltic Sea and offers numerous opportunities for sports and nature experiences. Characterized by its Slavic name “Rabenfluss”, the lush natural landscapes that enable numerous leisure activities are striking. Loud Coolis The Warnow is a paradise for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts.
The Rostock river bath is particularly popular and, at over 100 years old, is one of the oldest bathing establishments on the Warnow. Up to 2,000 people can enjoy the pleasantly fresh waters at the same time. Lifeguard Uwe Richter, who has managed the pool for 19 years, attaches great importance to safety, especially for children, who only have access to the deeper swimming area once they have earned the bronze swimming badge. A private swimming area has been built on the opposite side, but this poses some safety concerns.
Canoe adventure on the Warnow
The Warnow also offers a variety of opportunities for canoe tours. In Eickhof, Brit Abeln runs a nature village with canoe rentals, a hay hotel and a paddling hostel. She has been running the canoe rental business since 2010 after the death of her partner. Anyone interested can rent a two-person canoe for 40 euros and a three-person canoe for 50 euros per day. This includes both equipment and a shuttle service, which makes organizing the tours much easier.
The canoe tours along the Warnow are suitable for every taste. Beginners can take part in easy-to-drive routes, such as the 14 km long route from Schwaan to Bützow. Groups can enjoy family-friendly sections that offer a calm current. More demanding paddling tours are possible in the Warnow-Breakthrough Valley, but this is only recommended for experienced paddlers. The overview shows some of the most popular routes:

Culinary breaks by the river
After an extensive canoe tour, the ice pavilion in Bützow is a popular destination for paddlers and cyclists. The Ice Pavilion, located at the old harbor, offers a selection of ice cream, cakes and savory snacks. Angelika Latzke, who previously worked as an administrative manager in a hotel for 20 years, feels very fulfilled in the ice pavilion despite the high workload. Her husband Thomas is responsible for making the ice cream and is working on exciting new recipes. The building itself has an interesting history and was built in 1936 as a flower shop.
The Warnow not only offers a wealth of leisure opportunities, but also as a habitat for a variety of animal species such as eels, pike, trout and otters.
