Construction pause in Süßen: Heidenheimer Straße will remain closed until 2030!

On June 12, 2025 it was announced that the dismantling of Heidenheimer Straße in Süßen would be interrupted for several years after the current construction phase. The reason for this is the planned renovations by Deutsche Bahn on the Filstal route, which are scheduled to take place in 2028 and 2029. The city administration's goal is to avoid simultaneous construction sites and the associated rail replacement traffic in order to prevent a complete closure of the city center. This reports Filstal wave.

The dismantling is part of a more comprehensive package of measures for local development, which also includes the renovation of Heidenheimer Straße between the railway and the river Fils. The first construction phase, which extends from the Bahnhofstrasse junction to the Lange Strasse intersection, was completed in 2024. Remaining work such as road markings, sidewalks and planting work has been carried out since January 2025. The second construction phase, which is scheduled to begin in calendar week 11 or 12, extends from Heidenheimer Straße 79 to the Kelsch stationery and is divided into two subsections in order to minimize the burden on residents and businesses. Details can be found on the city of Süßen’s website Sweeten.de.

Construction pause until 2030

The suspension of construction work is expected to last until 2030. Mayor Marc Kersting does not expect construction to begin until 2030 at the earliest. By then, all open questions should be clarified and funding applied for. There is also a controversial future for the Filssteg, which the city originally planned to demolish. However, parts of the population are vehemently committed to preserving it.

Before the construction work on the second section, preliminary work is necessary, such as rerouting a fiber optic cable (LWL) from the end of the building to Bühlstrasse, which requires a narrow trench. Planned closures in inner-city traffic and for buses can also lead to diversions via Rechbergstrasse and Filsstrasse, while access routes for residents and patients of the surrounding doctors' practices remain intact. The closure of the old B10 at the Löwenkreuzung is scheduled to be lifted on March 7, 2025.

The measures aim to improve the quality of life in the city center and create a modern infrastructure that meets the needs of citizens. The current developments in connection with the dismantling of Heidenheimer Straße are an important step in the right direction to increase the quality of life in Süßen in the long term.
