Chaos, shock and devastating accidents – that was the terrible Friday evening and the dramatic Saturday afternoon on the streets around Schwalmstadt! Unbelievable but true: A total of three people were injured in two catastrophic traffic accidents that sent the region into turmoil. Two of the injured were even seriously injured!
The first accident occurred when a 19-year-old novice driver lost control of his vehicle in an older BMW 5 Series. On the state road, the car took a left-hand bend and crashed into a guardrail at the junction to the “Zum Wiesenhof” road. Possible causes could have been high speed or distraction. Tragically, there were three other passengers in the car - the damage? A whole 10,000 EUR! So much drama in just one moment!
A devastating Saturday
But the shock wasn't over yet! On Saturday disaster struck again. A 76-year-old driver who was driving a hybrid BMW lost control of her vehicle between Schwalmstadt and Neuental. In a stunning twist, the car flipped over and landed on its passenger side - a scene no one can believe! Luckily, first aiders were there, including a doctor and a rescue team from Mainz-Bingen, who helped immediately. Both women, aged 76 and 74, suffered serious but fortunately non-life-threatening injuries. Another shock for the witnesses: the total loss of the BMW amounted to a shocking 60,000 euros!
The A49 motorway was completely closed for about an hour while the emergency services - four ambulances, an emergency doctor and fire brigade teams from Schwalmstadt and Borken - were on duty. The nerves of those present were on edge! And as if that wasn't enough, a motorcyclist also had to be treated who, although uninjured, was taken into medical care due to circulatory problems.
A dangerous place
