The official announcement was made on the evening of the previous day via the email address of the town hall and was presented in a press conference in the morning. The mayor of Rzeszów, Konrad Fijołek, who, together with the six-time karate world champion Marta Niewczas, initiated the application in March, was pleased with the decision and thanked everyone who worked on this success. Rzeszów was one of 40 cities that competed for the title, making a strong sign for sport in the region.
As Fijołek explained, sport is an important pillar of life in Rzeszów, where 60% of the residents regularly exercise. The city has 110 sports facilities that are owned by the community or local universities. In addition, there are several hundred sports organizations, including over 100 active clubs and clubs that offer a wide range of sporting activities. From 2022 to 2024, almost 100 million PLN were invested in sports, and the city is planning another 141 million pln for 2025. Financing for the years 2026-2028 is also estimated with almost 300 million PLN.

The national sports day in Rzeszów will take place on the occasion of the appointment as a European sports city on September 16 and 17. This event is held on the banks of the Wisłok River and offers hundreds of free training sessions for everyone interested. The organizers, the “Zwalcz Nudę” foundation, receive support from well -known Polish athletes such as Grzegorz Krychowiak and Krzysztof Ignaczak. The event is co-financed by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism.
The planned activities include a 5 km long running event, a survival race for children and a flag football tournament on Saturday. On Sunday, visitors can expect a sports city with demonstrations, training hours and offers from local sports clubs and associations. A bike race for cycling enthusiasts and a neighborhood football tournament for children are also part of the program.The comprehensive range of leisure activities also includes yoga meetings, workshops with psychologists for children and parents, healthy cooking training, and Jujutsu training in the city. All events are free and offer the entire community in Rzeszów the opportunity to actively participate and try out sporting activities.
