15 years of O2Youth: Anniversary celebration with bull riding and free ice cream!
The O2Jugend youth center in the communities of Obfelden and Ottenbach celebrated its 15th anniversary on July 5, 2025. The celebrations included numerous attractions where visitors could enjoy a wide range of activities. Highlights included bull riding, a boxing machine, the opportunity to paint textiles and a wheel of fortune. A festival restaurant offering wraps, sausages and fries provided food. In addition, due to the nice weather, there were free ice creams for all visitors instead of the traditional birthday cake, as [obfelden.info](https://www.obfelden.info/der-jugendtreff-in-obfelden- Feierte-sein-15-jahr-jubilaeum/) reported.
Visitors also had the opportunity to view the youth center at Dorfstrasse 61 from the inside. The outdoor area offers plenty of seating, a graffiti wall and shady spots under trees. Of particular note is a shelter built by young people, but it is currently being overhauled due to littering and noise issues.
The concept of open youth work
The success of the youth center is also reflected in the positive speeches from Obfelden's local councilor and social director Simon Böhlen. He emphasized the importance of open child and youth work in the communities as well as the valuable support from the local authorities. Together with the head of the youth center, Saskia Wendel, they highlighted the achievements of inter-communal cooperation and the trust in the young people.
The O2Jugend Center, which was founded at the end of September 2009, offers a professional, socio-cultural service for young people in Obfelden and Ottenbach. It manages three service areas: animation, information and development and includes seven service offerings and six work areas. The aim is to create a leisure and informal educational offering suitable for young people that focuses on participation, prevention and health promotion. This is done by helping people to help themselves and promoting integration. The organization employs three professionals and invests at least 55% of resources in its service areas, ensuring that the minimum offer can be maintained even without the initiative of young people, according to o2jugend.ch.
Inside the youth center there are numerous facilities that serve the needs of young people. These include a youth club with a bar, sofas, billiards table, table tennis table as well as an office and a meeting room. A special room is the clique room, which can be used independently for 35 francs per month, even outside opening hours. There is also a hairdressing studio here where a young person cuts hair.
The upper school meeting (Openhouse) is open from Wednesday to Friday, while the middle school meeting (KidsTreff) is also open on Wednesdays. These diverse offerings and the ever-growing enthusiasm of young people illustrate the importance of the youth center in the region.
