Ten years of Café Landleben: Christina Buck inspires Schladebach!

On May 23, 2025, the “Café Landleben” in Schladebach will celebrate its tenth anniversary. Christina Buck, who opened the café a decade ago, wanted to create a meeting place in the village with her idea of ice cream, cake and culture. Despite initial skepticism and negative opinions about her project, she managed to create a place of togetherness that is now known far beyond the borders of Schladebach. After her father's death, Buck, who was 57 years old at the time, decided to convert his apartment, full of memories, into a café.

In May 2015 she opened the doors of the “Café Landleben” and initially only offered a place to linger on weekends and Wednesday afternoons. She initially ran the café as a part-time job after working at the Sparkasse her whole life. A year after opening, she received a severance package that allowed her to devote herself to running her café full-time.

Cultural events and community offerings

Over the years, Buck has established a variety of events that make the “Café Country Life” a cultural center. The offerings include afternoons of singing with piano accompaniment, game evenings, book readings and cocktail and mulled wine evenings. The “Irish Folk Session”, which takes place regularly and ensures a good atmosphere with Guinness beer, whisky, singing and lively conversations, is particularly popular.

Music has a high priority in the café. Buck himself sings in two choirs and organizes annual spring and Christmas singing meetings. Their goal of bringing culture to the village and offering experiences to older people has been more than fulfilled in recent years. The charming atmosphere and well-prepared food and drinks have also found recognition on platforms such as Restaurant Guru. The café gets a rating of 4.8 and is known for its excellent service.

A place for all senses

The “Café Landleben” is valued not only for its ice cream and coffee, but also for the opportunity to relax and interact with other people in a welcoming environment. The special atmosphere and high-quality food make it a popular meeting place in the region. The opening times are not advertised at the moment, but the joy and passion that goes into the café is unmistakable.

At a time when many people are looking for community, Christina Buck has created both an economic and cultural mainstay for Schladebach with her “Café Landleben”. Regular events and a welcoming atmosphere ensure that the café remains a place of togetherness where everyone is welcome.
