Summer festival in Viernheim: Celebrate together against dementia!

On June 25, 2025, the Viernheim Dementia Network invites you to a summer festival on Apostle Square from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. This event is aimed at all citizens of Viernheim as well as guests from the surrounding communities. People with dementia and their relatives are particularly targeted. The festival opens under the motto “Dementia – courageous together” and begins at 2 p.m. with an ecumenical service organized by Pastor Klaus Traxler and community leader Herbert Kohl Viernheim-online.de reported.

After the service, which ends at around 2:45 p.m., visitors can look forward to coffee, cake and live music. The program offers numerous opportunities to exchange ideas, dance and linger, as well as information on the topic of dementia. An information stand from the dementia network will be available to present support offers from the region. A highlight is the dementia course, which simulates everyday situations for people with dementia at two stations.

Entertainment and information

The city library’s “Flitzi” bookmobile will offer specialist literature on the subject of dementia, while “Vanellas Spielewelt” will present games for seniors. In addition, people aged 55 and over can take part in leisure activities and are invited to take trial rides with the e-rickshaw. This event is free and takes place whatever the weather; If it rains, the festival will be moved to the self-managed meeting place 55+ at Schillerplatz 1a.

The importance of such events is underlined by the current figures: In Germany, around 1.8 million people currently live with dementia, and the forecast for 2050 shows an increase to around 2.8 million people affected. There are currently around 55 million people worldwide living with dementia. The Viernheim Dementia Network is made up of various institutions, doctors and private individuals and aims to raise awareness of the topic of dementia in society and to offer support for those affected and their relatives.
