Invitation to the 10th Café Silberband: coffee, cake and surprises!

On Sunday, June 1, 2025, the Senior Citizens' Council invites all Burgdorf citizens aged 60 and over to the 10th Café Silberband. The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Paulus Church Center, Berliner Ring 17. At this social gathering, participants can relax with a cup of coffee and homemade cake prepared by volunteer bakers. There will also be a little surprise on offer, which should increase anticipation. You are allowed to bring acquaintances with you, and entry is free - registration is not required, as altkreisblitz.de reports.

This event is not the only initiative by the Seniors' Council in Burgdorf. On May 28, 2025 there will be a cell phone café in the DRK Aktivtreff, Wilhelmstr. 1b, instead. Here, seniors can learn everything about the topic of “cloud” and digital applications from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event offers the opportunity to ask questions about smartphones, tablets and apps and is also free with no registration required, as mentioned on seniorenrat-burgdorf.de.

Diverse offers for seniors

The Senior Citizens Council is active and is planning numerous activities for the coming weeks. The next seniors' meeting is scheduled for October 26, 2025 with the election of the 7th Burgdorf Seniors' Council. Interested people aged 60 and over can register for candidacy at the Burgdorf City Citizens' Office. On June 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., information will be provided on Schützenplatz about upcoming events and the search for candidates.

In addition, the information event “Women in Focus” will take place in the Paulus Family Center on June 19, 2025. The aim is to offer women insights into support and prevention offers. The speakers are Isabel Marquardt from the AWO women's advice center and Laura Moddemann from the AWO women's shelter. Participation is also free and does not require registration.

Digital learning opportunities for older people

In a larger context, the “DigitalPakt Age” initiative of the Federal Ministry for Senior Citizens and the BAGSO (Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organizations) is being continued. This aims to promote the digital skills of older people. With a total of 200 digital experience locations in Germany, over 15,000 seniors can benefit from free learning offers that have existed since 2021. These include smartphone courses for beginners, instructions for online banking and basic PC courses. Funding of 3,000 euros each for the establishment of such learning locations supports the training measures, as reported on bmfsfj.de.

These developments reflect a social responsibility to introduce older people well to the digital world and to make it easier for them to access modern technologies. The diverse events and initiatives in Burgdorf are a step in this direction and offer seniors the opportunity to actively participate in social life.
