Baker legend Herbert Nelles is honored with the Golden Master Certificate!
Herbert Leo Nelles celebrated his 80th birthday on June 28, 2025. On the occasion of this special occasion, the family and the staff of the Nelles bakery invited everyone to a surprise celebration. As part of the celebrations, Nelles was presented with the Golden Master Certificate by Mayor Christoph Becker. This special award recognizes his 50 years in the baking trade.
A lot has changed in the five decades that Nelles has been in the industry. The Golden Master Certificate is traditionally awarded after 40 years, while the Diamond Master Certificate is awarded for 50 years and the Iron Master Certificate is awarded for 60 years of craft tradition. Therefore, the award is not only an honor for Nelles, but also a symbol of his committed work in the baking industry.
Honors and traditions in the bakery trade
The district craftsmen's association regularly holds celebrations to honor old masters. This year, in addition to Nelles, two diamond master certificates were also awarded to Kurt Fischer and Eckhardt Geppert. The sons of these award winners are actively involved in the board of the bakery guild, which underlines the tradition and cohesion within the craft.
The deputy master master Stephan Grossmann and the managing director Maritta Feitsch conveyed warm congratulations to the honorees on behalf of the guild. More pictures from the celebrations can be viewed on the Freiburg District Crafts Association website, which shows the importance of such events for the community of bakers and their families.
Recognizing masterwork not only honors the personal commitment of the bakers, but also highlights the long-standing tradition and deep-rooted values of the craft. GA.de reports that such awards have great significance for the members of the bakers' guild and promotes awareness of developments and changes in the industry.
In a constantly changing working environment, honoring traditional craftsmanship remains highly relevant. It is important to preserve both the history and the future of the craft of baking, while also giving new generations of bakers the opportunity to prove themselves in this valuable profession.
