In a HUGE SENSATION, a new project in Karlsruhe is causing a stir! Researchers have discovered that using INSECT-FRIENDLY LIGHTING reduces the number of butterflies, cicadas and other creatures that can fly by a STUNNING 50%! The ingenious team led by project leader Dominique Erb set out to investigate how to design street lighting to PROTECT the nighttime ecosystem while keeping citizens safe. An AI battle for nature!
This incredible project, known as “NaturLight,” focuses not only on the visual benefits, but also on the SHOCKING effect of light pollution on ecosystems! The study, carried out by the renowned Leibniz Institute for Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries, revealed exciting findings in various nature reserves. In a large-scale experiment, special traps were set up to analyze the occurrence of species and the number of insects.
The result? Half of the luminaires tested were specifically converted and provided with special covers. This shows that artificial light not only serves our safety, but can also be understood as a KEY to a better balance between humans and nature! A shocking dilemma between animal welfare and human safety that now needs to be solved!
