Göppingen is starting into the future with committed climate scouts!
A significant step in municipal climate protection work was taken in the Göppingen district: On May 12, 2025, the first climate scouts received their certificates after comprehensive training. This training, carried out by the Göppingen District Energy Agency, comprised four modules that provided participants with important knowledge of legal requirements, adaptation to climate impacts, funding programs and project implementation. Ten municipalities, including Aichelberg, Albershausen and Zell, took part in the training and will act as central contacts for climate protection projects in the future.( filstalexpress.de )
The new climate scouts play a key role in local climate protection. They not only become active in their administrations, but should also involve citizens more closely in climate protection. Educational campaigns are planned to promote understanding and acceptance among the population, while the role model function of municipalities ensures orientation and trust.
Valuable exchange and networking
The valuable exchange between the participants was particularly emphasized. A regional network for the exchange of information and experiences should be established in order to create synergies and ensure a continuous learning process. Planned annual face-to-face meetings and digital information formats are intended to help develop common approaches. Timm Engelhardt, Managing Director of the Energy Agency, stated that the training courses make an important contribution to improving climate protection structures in the district.
The commitment of employees trained as climate scouts is part of a broader pilot project that was originally launched by Difu (German Institute for Urban Studies). In 2018 and 2019, 120 municipal trainees from over 50 cities were qualified for similar climate protection initiatives, which strengthened the idea of municipal climate protection nationwide.( klimaschutz.de )
Instruments for effective implementation
The recently updated practical guide “Climate protection in municipalities” offers comprehensive know-how and support for the implementation of municipal climate protection measures. Over 11,000 German communities play an important role in achieving national climate goals and can receive valuable suggestions from this guide.( difu.de )
In order to meet the requirements, the guide contains structured information and practical solutions that help both beginners and advanced users to design their climate protection strategies effectively. The digital availability of the guide makes it easier to access the necessary information and supports the actors involved in their efforts to protect the climate.
The next training for climate scouts is planned for autumn 2025 and will continue the positive development in the district.
