FDP demands examination of the use of the old hospital building for schools and apartments!

The discussion about the future of the old hospital building at Eichert in Göppingen is gaining momentum. The FDP district council parliamentary group has submitted an application to examine the reuse of the old clinic building. However, this application, which was already formulated on February 5, 2025, remains on hold until an expert opinion and the necessary permits for demolition are submitted, as Filstal Express reported.

There is an urgent need for a structural extension or new building for the Bodelwickelschule in Göppingen due to the increasing number of students. This necessity represents a significant financial burden for the district, which was not taken into account in previous financial planning. There is also a lack of suitable land for an expansion or a new school building.

Employee housing and training apartment

Another aspect of the current application concerns Alb Fils Klinikum GmbH. The clinic group is urgently looking for new apartments for employees and has expanded its search to the city center of Göppingen. There is particular demand for apartments for trainees and students, as new study programs have been established at Esslingen University's Göppingen campus. In this context, too, the district administration was asked to examine the possibilities of using the old clinic building at Eichert.

The Alb Fils Clinic is also planning a new building that will not only ensure inpatient care for patients, but also strive for integration with other sectors of the healthcare system. The new building will use the latest information technology to increase comfort for patients. According to the plans, 645 planned beds will be offered in modern single and double rooms. To ensure an efficient spatial arrangement, the areas for operations, intensive care units, functional areas and outpatient clinics are spread over seven levels. A helipad will also be installed on the roof of the clinic to ensure rapid assistance Alb Fils Clinic informed.

Future plans in the health sector

The new construction of the Ortenau Clinic in Offenburg illustrates the efforts to ensure sustainable inpatient health care in the region by 2030. What is probably the largest new clinic building in Ortenau will offer patients modern, patient-oriented healthcare. The competition for the planning of the new clinic was announced across Europe, and the planning team Ludes Architekten – Ingenieure GmbH and Fischer Landschaftsarchitekten from Munich were chosen as prize winners. These innovations are part of the 2030 Agenda, which envisages the further development of the clinic campus and the creation of a new urban district Ortenau2030.

With these projects, health care and education in Göppingen and the surrounding area are facing crucial changes that will affect both the infrastructure and the offerings for students and medical staff.
