A life full of passion: Hans Müller between Eschenbach and Munich

Hans Müller, an influential member of the Eschenbach community, died on May 25, 2025 at the age of 89 in Munich. His life was characterized by extraordinary commitment, both in his homeland and in the Bavarian metropolis. Known for his cheerful nature and versatility, Müller was not only a free spirit, but also a key figure in the club of his compatriots from Eschenbach. Particularly during the migration of many Upper Palatinate residents in the 19th century, who came to Munich in search of better living conditions, such community work became essential in order to preserve cultural customs. The “Association of Compatriots from Eschenbach and the Surrounding Area” was founded in 1930, of which Müller was chairman for more than a decade before Helmut Haas took over the management in 2003. Müller still had many important moments in the club, including organizing the “Sitzweil” for the 70th anniversary in 2000, where around 1,000 guests came together in the Hofbräuhaus.

Hans Müller was born in 1936 in Heinersreuth, where he began his career as a baker. This passion accompanied him throughout his life, and even after his active career he continued to bake Christmas cookies for his family. In addition to his professional career, Müller was active in sports, initially in the tennis club and at SC Eschenbach, before playing professional football for clubs in Frankfurt and Villingen-Schwenningen. In 1972 he met his wife Maria while skiing, which led to a lifelong partnership.

Involvement in the traditional costume club

Hans Müller's cultural commitment also extended to the Friedberg traditional costume association, which he joined in 1956. There he quickly took on responsibility and became youth leader in 1958. Over time he took on various positions, including 2nd Gauvorplattler, 1st Vereinsvorplattler and finally from 1980 to 1998 as 1st Chairman. Under his leadership, the traditional costume club celebrated its 70th anniversary in 1993 with a newly restored club flag. These formative experiences and the joy of customs are also reflected in his speech on his 85th birthday, when a delegation from the traditional costume club brought him congratulations.

Müller's efforts during the Bavarian-Swabian Gaufest in 1986, which took place under his aegis, are particularly impressive. In 2007 he was finally appointed honorary director, a celebration of his voluntary work. Müller was not only a formative figure in the traditional costume club, but also a father of two daughters and grandfather of four grandchildren, who brought him great joy.

Lasting memories and farewell

Hans Müller will remain unforgotten in the hearts of many. His funeral on June 2, 2025 at Munich's North Cemetery took place surrounded by his family and club members. His legacy as a bridge builder between cultures lives on, and his stories will continue to be part of the memories of the history of the Eschenbachers in Munich.
