Extreme athletes from Reichenbach: 763 kilometers to Croatia in 16 days!
In a remarkable project, extreme athlete Karlheinz Dravec from Reichenbach is planning to tackle a challenging 763-kilometer running route to Cakovec, Croatia. The run should be completed within 16 days and covers a total of more than 12,500 meters in altitude. Dravec, who describes himself as an extreme athlete, brings a wealth of experience from marathon and ultra runs, which prepares him optimally for this challenge.
Dravec once again shows his passion for extremely challenging sports. His background as an experienced runner stands him in good stead and the route ahead will undoubtedly present both physical and mental challenges.
Successes at the Istria 100
The run took place under challenging conditions: the start time was on Friday evening at 5 p.m. On Saturday temperatures rose to up to 25 degrees under cloudless skies. Dravec aimed to complete the route in approximately 32 hours and coped well with the extreme conditions. Despite physical and mental lows, he was able to draw on his trail running experience.
Details about the Istria 100
Karlheinz Dravec ran almost two thirds of the route together with his friend Manuel Schmied. After an impressive 26:20 hours, the two only had a half marathon left to do. They set themselves the goal of breaking the 30-hour mark, which Dravec finally achieved with a time of 29:35:00 hours, placing him 99th overall. Manuel Schmied followed four minutes later and secured 100th place. Throughout the course, participants had to navigate difficult terrain, including coastlines, medieval towns and gorges.
The challenge and concentration were enormous. At the award ceremony, Dravec was recognized as the fastest runner in his age group (M60), while the overall winner Alexander Westenberger from Erlangen crossed the finish line in a time of 18:09:55 hours.
The upcoming mammoth task to Croatia will certainly represent a new, exciting challenge for Dravec. With his impressive record and the determined attitude he has shown in previous competitions, it will be exciting to see how he fares on this extreme course.
