Boinger Kirbe: Festival of brass music and autumnal delicacies!

On October 14, 2025, the Boinger Kirbe took place in the Oberboihingen community hall, an event that provided entertainment and a sociable atmosphere for two days. The event was organized by the Oberboihingen Music Association, led by chairmen Gert Schnepf and Sven Grundler, who were formerly bakers. The team was supported by master baker Werner Dettinger, who enriched the culinary offerings with regional specialties.

The preparations for the church were extensive. The hall was festively decorated and equipped with party lights on Saturday. The first evening began with a musical “warm-up”, followed by a performance under the motto “Polka madness and party hits”. The singers Felix Harer and Markus Hepting entertained the guests for almost four hours, while David Masen, as musical director, ensured everything ran smoothly. Guests were invited to actively participate by singing and swaying along, while a bar with late-summer cocktails provided appropriate refreshment.

Tradition and cuisine

On Sunday morning we continued dismantling the bar and seating the hall. Visitors could look forward to traditional brass music and autumnal dishes. The most popular offerings included onion cake, cream cake, pumpkin soup and a hearty meat platter from the “Linde” inn. The music club's youth band under the direction of Melissa Wagner as well as a later performance by the music club from Dettingen/Teck provided musical entertainment.

The atmosphere was characterized by the best brass music, which perfectly rounded off the autumnal setting. The event not only maintained local customs, but also strengthened the community in Oberboihingen. The Boinger Kirbe has therefore developed into a real highlight in the community's event calendar.

Other events in the region

The Boinger Kirbe is not the only festival celebrated in October. Just a week later, on October 17th and 18th, the Baltmannsweiler music club held its own Kirbe-Hocketse. This tradition was the first major festival in the region in a long time and offered visitors a similar culinary experience with autumnal foods and brass music. In sunny weather, additional beer sets were set up outdoors, while guests had to have their 3G status checked to gain access to the festival site.

The regular orchestra under conductor Dieter Richter played both traditional Bohemian brass music as well as rock titles, while the small ensemble of “D’Lauter Bläser” rounded off the program on Sunday. The crowd was so large that additional seating had to be provided between the festival tents. The youth orchestra was also able to perform again after its Corona break and received much applause.

The cultural landscape in the region is also enriched by festivals such as the Viehscheid im Allgäu, which celebrates the end of summer. Here the cows return from the Alpine meadows to the villages and are decorated with flowers and large bells. This tradition brings people together and is celebrated in many villages between September 8th and October 3rd.

The Boinger Kirbe and the Kirbe-Hocketse in Baltmannsweiler are fantastic opportunities to experience local culture and connect with people in the community. They show how important festivals are for community life and the maintenance of traditional customs.
