Night construction site at the Plochinger triangle: full closure from Monday!
On May 26th, 2025, a night construction site to renovate the exit ramp from the B 10 to the B 313 will begin at the Plochinger triangle in the Esslingen district. According to the Stuttgarter Nachrichten, motorists must expect a complete closure of the exit ramp in the direction of Wendlingen, which will come into force on May 26th and 27th from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. These measures are necessary because the ramp dates from 1979 and no longer meets today's requirements.
The ramp has a span of around 850 meters and spans not only the Neckar, but also the Deutsche Bahn and the L 1250 state road. The diversion will take place via the Plochingen-Nord junction, and appropriate signage will be put up. The federal government is investing a total of around nine million euros in the necessary maintenance work.
Extensive renovation work
The renovation work includes much more than just replacing the exit ramp. Asphalt surfaces, bridge seals and road crossings will also be renewed in the coming months. The current construction phase is part of an extensive initiative that began with renovation work on February 12, 2024 and is expected to be completed by mid-December 2024. Guardrails, railings and drainage pipes will also be replaced during this time.
The work will be carried out as a “24-hour construction site” to minimize construction time and cause as little disruption to traffic as possible. One lane will remain open in the direction of Wendlingen during the renovation work, with one side closed. Future full night closures are also planned for the end of May to the beginning of June and the end of November to the beginning of December.
Investments in transport infrastructure
These measures at the Plochinger triangle are part of a larger trend in Germany that requires investments in transport infrastructure. A study by the German Institute for Urban Studies shows that there will be an investment requirement of around 372 billion euros for the maintenance and expansion of transport infrastructure by 2030. This is particularly important since motorized individual and freight transport causes around 20% of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany.
Sustainable mobility and ensuring efficient transport systems are key challenges that also affect municipalities. The renovation work on the Plochinger triangle shows that investments in the infrastructure are necessary not only to remedy existing deficiencies, but also to achieve the transport policy goals of the coming years. The federal government has already announced that these investments are urgently needed to advance the transport transition in Germany.
