Conductor wanted for Hohengehren trombone choir – Become part of the music!
The Hohengehren trombone choir is looking for a new conductor. With a dedicated team of 40 active brass players and 11 young brass players, the choir, which dates back to 1953, has a lot to offer. Under the motto “To the glory of God and the joy of the people” they regularly accompany church services and other church events. The choir is led by Werner Lang, who emphasizes the strong cohesion within the group. This liveliness and community are essential, especially at a time when Friedrich Veil, who has been working as a conductor since 2012, is leaving the choir for personal reasons. His commitment, especially in the musical training of young wind players, is greatly appreciated and leaves a noticeable gap.
The trombone choir has a remarkable age range of 8 to 75 years. The young wind players receive weekly individual lessons and take part in joint rehearsals, which helps to introduce them to the large choir. The youth training was restructured in 2013 and is led by Marion Dezauer. It's not just the musical education, but also the community that is important to many members. The choir not only has classical obligations such as accompanying church services, but also a strong presence in civic life, for example at the Maypole erection and the bakery festival.
Activities and engagement in church life
Every year the trombone choir has around 100 dates. The tasks include not only accompanying church services and birthday serenades, but also providing musical accompaniment to funerals and carol games at Easter. This diversity shows how firmly integrated the choir is into community life. The trombone choir is also active at district and state level, which creates a broad network. A must-attend event is the State Trombone Day in Ulm, and for the young brass players there is even a district youth brass camp in January in Michelbach/Bilz.
There are more than 6,500 trombone choirs in Germany, with around 115,000 active members affected. These choirs have membership across generations, genders and milieus and promote a sense of community. What is particularly worth emphasizing is that participation and training are generally carried out on a voluntary basis. Instruments and sheet music are often provided free of charge, promoting accessibility for all ages. The first written evidence of a trombone choir dates back to 1764, and the structure of these choirs developed particularly in the 19th century.
The search for a new conductor is now open. Interested applicants are invited to contact the choir board. Contact details and further information can be obtained from Werner Lang, Lautergasse 287 in Baltmannsweiler. The lively community is looking forward to new impulses and would like to continue to make its contribution to church and civic life.
The Hohengehren Trombone Choir not only stands for musical tradition, but also for community and commitment. Generations meet here to hear the brass sounds together in praise of God. The search for a new conductor is approached with a lot of hope and anticipation for the musical challenges ahead.
