Blocking lifted: L 356 near Hochdorf reopened!

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the closure of the L 356 near Hochdorf was officially lifted. The construction workers loaded the last barrier sign, meaning the road is now fully accessible again. This good news follows intensive renovation work that began in December 2024. The work covered the area between the entrance to Hochdorf and the intersection L 356 / K 4718 and went smoothly throughout.

The first construction phase was even completed earlier than planned. The second construction phase between the Kaltenbach quarry and the L 356 / K 4718 intersection began in June 2025, which also progressed quickly and was completed early. The L 356 was originally completely closed until the end of 2025 for the renovation work, but thanks to the efficient planning and execution of the work, a return to normality is now possible sooner.

Renovation measures and investments

During the renovation, the road structure was extensively renewed, as were the drainage facilities. In addition, the roadway widths were optimized, confusing sections of the route were eliminated and narrow curve radii were expanded. A new left-turn lane at the entrance to the Kaltenbach quarry has been installed to increase traffic safety. A particularly striking element of the renovation work was the conversion of the intersection L 356 / K 4718 into a roundabout, which improved visibility and safety for all road users.

The total costs of the measure amount to around 2.5 million euros, with financing coming from the state of Baden-Württemberg and, to a lesser extent, the cities of Nagold and Horb. These investments are part of a comprehensive strategy to secure and improve the region's transport infrastructure in the long term.

The Karlsruhe Regional Council would like to thank road users and those involved for their understanding during the construction work. With the reopening of the L 356 on September 17, 2025, traffic flow in the region will improve significantly. You can find out more about this at Schwarzwälder Bote and [Regional Council Karlsruhe].
