Fish bite at the linden pond: nine-year-old suffers bloody injury!

The Lindenweiher, idyllically located between Hochdorf and Ingoldingen, recently made negative headlines. On Wednesday, a nine-year-old boy experienced a shocking incident while swimming when he was bitten on his toes by a fish. This resulted in bleeding but not serious injury. The family, who had no bandages at that moment, immediately went to the emergency room, where the boy was simply given a bandage. The father stated that he and his family were not feeling well after this incident and that they were avoiding swimming in the pond for the time being and wanted to go to the outdoor pool instead. In a conversation he described the situation and described the fish as a smaller specimen with pointed, sharp teeth.

When asked about the exact type of fish, no one could give a definitive answer, but an angler named Jürgen Speth ruled out catfish as the culprit. He suspected that it could be a pike or zander, which are often found in this body of water. Speth also emphasized that he had not experienced such fish attacks in the Lindenweiher in recent decades, which further underlines the unusual nature of the incident.

Pike and their characteristics

Pike, according to the portal isteshaltbar.de They have over 700 pointed, backward-curved teeth and generally avoid contact with people and flee when approached. Alexander Brinker, head of the Fisheries Research Center, confirmed that such attacks are rare. However, pike can be considered dangerous due to their razor-sharp fangs, which can cause deep wounds, especially around people.

Catfish, also common in many bodies of water, do not typically cause serious injuries, making them seem less threatening compared to pike. It is interesting to note that reports of fish attacks, when they occur, are mostly due to pike. For example, there was an incident in 2015 where a girl was bitten by a pike.

However, the dangers posed by pike should not be exaggerated. Despite their obvious abilities as predators and their potential danger when hunting, they are not aggressive towards humans in general. Pike are also popular food fish. Known for their adaptability, they can live in a variety of waters, preferring calm, warmer waters with gravelly bottoms.

The Lindenweiher incident highlights the need to be careful when swimming and fishing in waters that harbor predatory fish species. As a result of this experience, the boy's family has already decided to relocate their leisure activities to safer waters for the time being, while the incident sends a strong message about the invisibility of dangers in seemingly harmless waters.
