Erema is struggling with a decline in sales: Europe is hesitant about recycling!
Erema, a leading manufacturer of plastics recycling machinery, recently published its financial figures for 2024/25. The company achieved sales of 330 million euros, a decrease of 13 percent compared to the previous year. This development is largely due to the subdued market situation in Europe, while positive impulses from North America and Asia give hope for stabilization in these regions. This reports kunststoffweb.de.
Erema CEO Manfred Hackl expressed optimism about future developments in Europe, particularly with regard to the new EU Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR). This regulation could increase demand for recycling solutions in the region. Nevertheless, Erema sees a reluctance to invest in the “Polyolefins Post-Consumer” segment.
Global recycling services
In the 2024/25 financial year, the Erema Group recycled around 26 million tonnes of plastic waste worldwide. Erema covers the entire value chain of mechanical plastic recycling, which positions the company as the clear market leader in this area. Despite the current challenges, Hackl emphasizes the importance of competitiveness and the company's wide product range. This is also done by erema-group.com confirmed.
Erema has also made significant progress in recent years. Stable demand for recycling solutions for production waste and bottle-to-bottle applications shows that there are positive trends in the market. In particular, there is a noticeable trend towards larger system dimensions in the PET and PO sectors. Erema has already put the first large-scale chemical recycling plants into operation and implemented pilot projects in fiber-to-fiber recycling.
Investments and innovations
Another milestone was the commissioning of a recycling plant for post-consumer textiles from PURE LOOP, which won the Plastics Industry Award in 2024. The company has also successfully completed an investment program worth 145 million euros to optimize component production. Christoph Wöss was appointed Global Sales Director in April 2025, which will strengthen the company's international sales structure.
Erema currently employs 920 people worldwide and is headquartered in Ansfelden, Austria. With offices in the USA, China and Africa, the company demonstrates its global presence and commitment to the sustainable management of plastic waste.
