Brezelrace 2025: Stuttgart will become a cycling mecca for everyone!

On September 14, 2025, the Stuttgart region will be all about cycling when the Brezelrace attracts hobby cyclists from all over the region. Around 4,000 participants are expected, who can choose between three different route lengths: 110 km, 60 km and 30 km. The longest route leads from Stuttgart to Esslingen and through the picturesque Schurwald, with a minimum speed of 25 km/h required. The 60 km route requires an average speed of 23 km/h, while the 30 km guided ride is aimed at beginners and allows all types of bikes. This new event is intended to promote Stuttgart's image as an attractive sports region, reports Krzbb.

What is particularly noteworthy is that the pretzel race is organized by the city of Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Region Association (VRS). After the Brezel Race, the Women’s Cycling Grand Prix takes place, a major cycling race for women that runs over 120 km. The professional race will start in Filderstadt in 2025 before heading to downtown Stuttgart. This marks the third edition of the Grand Prix, which is one of the most important German one-day races with up to 132 cyclists from 22 teams. Brezelrace.de highlights that the number of participants also includes teams from the UCI WorldTour.

Inclusion and future perspectives

Another positive aspect of the Brezel Race is the planned inclusion of people with disabilities from 2026. This shows that the event not only promotes cycling, but also takes social responsibility to create an inclusive sporting event. The VRS Economic Committee has also decided to continue the double bike race for 2026 and 2027. Krzbb also reports that organizer “Inflame Events” plans to apply for the “UCI World Tour” starting in 2028, which could give the event additional visibility and prestige.

The Women’s Cycling Grand Prix is not only a significant event for professional cycling, but also a step towards promoting women in cycling. According to a recent study, only 27% of racing cyclists in Germany are women. Bernd Schmidt, Vice President of Popular Sports at the Association of German Cyclists, still sees a positive development and emphasizes that more and more women are getting into cycling. Participation in such events could help increase women's interest in cycling and strengthen community among female cyclists, such as Deutschlandfunk reported.

Special trips for women, like the one organized by Julia Wagner, create protected spaces in which women-specific issues can be openly discussed. Such initiatives could be crucial in getting more women interested in cycling and actively participating. The challenges, such as mansplaining, which many women find disruptive, show the importance of fostering a supportive and respectful community in cycling.

The Brezel Race and the Women’s Cycling Grand Prix not only offer a platform for amateur and professional cyclists, but also represent an important step towards improving the visibility of women in cycling.
