Heidengrabenzentrum: Big festival with abseiling and guided tours!
On June 7th and 8th, 2025, the Heidengrabenzentrum in Erkenbrechtsweiler will celebrate its first anniversary with a varied program. The event is aimed at interested parties and families and is organized in cooperation with Cojote. Exciting guided tours and the opportunity to abseil from the observation tower are planned, among other things. A newer attraction, this observation tower commemorates the region's Celtic history and offers impressive views of the remains of the former Celtic settlement.
The Heidengraben region, which is one of the five most important Celtic sites in Baden-Württemberg, was the largest Celtic settlement in Europe over 2000 years ago. Up to 20,000 people once lived here. The same region is part of the UNESCO Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve, which is known for its sustainable development. A special feature of the observation tower is its height of 18.4 to 20.5 meters and the triangular design, which is inspired by the Celtic Triskelion. The tower's 102 steps not only lead to a panoramic view of the entire area, but also to a glass floor plate that allows a view 20 meters into the depths.
A place of history and change
Remains of Celtic fortifications are visible on the Heidengraben site, extending over 1,700 hectares. Various projects are currently being implemented in the area to promote sustainable agriculture and forestry, which will benefit the biosphere reserve. These efforts include, among others, support for 300 projects under the PLENUM and Regions Active programs, which provide for joint investments of around nine million euros. The developments also include the “Albkorn” marketing project, which brings farmers and regional companies together.
Of course, tourism plays a major role in this context. Special events such as the annual Biosphere Week in May offer visitors over 70 opportunities to explore the region. From discovery tours to cultural events and insights into traditional crafts, those interested can experience the diversity of the Swabian Alb. The region also offers sports and wellness offerings to meet the needs of visitors.
- Gesamthöhe des Aussichtsturms: 18,4 bis 20,5 Meter
- Anzahl der Stufen: 102
- Projekte zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung: Rund 300
- Gesamtinvestition in Projekte: etwa neun Millionen Euro
The Heidengrabenzentrum itself will offer multimedia presentations about the life of the Celts from June 2024. This is not only intended to keep history alive, but also to highlight the area's importance as a trading center that has produced many important finds.
In summary, the June events showcase not only the history of Heidengraben, but also the active role the region plays in sustainable development and the tourism sector. The Heidengraben remains a fascinating destination that combines both historical and modern aspects.
