VfL Sindelfingen triumphs: 31 gold medals despite storms!
The German Swimming Championships took place in Sindelfingen last weekend. Despite weather-related interruptions due to squalls and thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon and an early end to the competition on Saturday and Sunday evening, the VfL Sindelfingen team showed strong performances. In two exciting days, the athletes won 31 gold medals, 29 silver and 24 bronze medals, demonstrating both individual skills and great team spirit. The VfL swimmers were also able to shine in the finals. In a total of 17 starts in the youth finals (born 2011 and younger), they won four gold medals, three silver and four bronze medals. The athletes Evelyn Song, Leonie Gsell, Gianluca Guiliano and Jaron Mößner in particular impressed with enormous performances. Felix Illeson and Logan Villarroel competed in the open final of the 100m butterfly, while the team competed with ten relays in various disciplines. Eight of these relay teams made it to the podium and won a total of four gold, three silver and one bronze.
Successes of the young swimmers
The successes in the youth sector are particularly noteworthy. The swimmers born in 2011 and younger were able to impress in the competitions and show that they have a promising future. Coach Tobias Ehret emphasized the positive effect of the Easter training camp, which was obviously reflected in the swimmers' performance.
As part of their competition preparation, some VfL athletes also took part in the German All-Around Swimming Championships in Braunschweig. 320 participants from all over Germany competed here to demonstrate their skills in various disciplines. Frederic Stumpf and Lia Berner dominated the breaststroke and freestyle all-around and finished in a strong 5th place. Cece Gregory and Leonie Gsell competed in the all-around backstroke, with Gsell finishing in a respectable 16th place. Coach Bernhard Kömpf was extremely satisfied with the athletes' performances and emphasized the importance of such competitions for the swimmers' development. VfL Sindelfingen's successes at the championships show that the combination of individual motivation and team-oriented training leads to remarkable results.
