Rescue operation in Böblingen: basement fire with dramatic evacuation!

There was a massive fire brigade operation in Böblingen today when a cellar fire was reported on Lauchstrasse. The alarm sounded at 10:03 a.m. and the smoke quickly spread into the stairwell, requiring ten people to be evacuated immediately. They had to be rescued from their homes with the help of turntable ladders.

The fire brigade from Böblingen and Sindelfingen, supported by the police and emergency services, were quickly on site. Operations manager Daniel Rieß even requested an additional turntable ladder from Magstadt in order to be able to better manage the situation. Firefighters entered the basement using breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Despite the dramatic circumstances, there were fortunately no injuries from the fire, but many residents had to contend with smoke in the stairwell.

Rescue and firefighting work

The evacuation went according to plan and the building was ventilated after the evacuation as the smoke initially remained in the stairwell. From 10:45 a.m., the emergency services began checking the locked apartments via windows using turntable ladders. However, at the time of going to press it was unclear whether there were any injuries and what the cause of the fire was. Police fire experts have been informed and will be ready as soon as the basement can be entered.

A total of ten vehicles and almost 50 emergency services were deployed at times. Traffic around Lauchstrasse and Postplatz was severely affected as these areas were cordoned off for rescue efforts. Residents have to be prepared for long queues of cars around the Böblinger Schlossberg.

Comparison with past operations

A similar incident recently occurred in Gärtringen, where a fire broke out in an apartment building on New Year's Eve. The fire department was alerted at 1:13 a.m. The cause of the fire was attributed to a technical defect in a washing machine. 26 residents were able to leave the building independently and were cared for in the Gärtringen fire station. The fire department was on site with 42 vehicles and over 160 emergency services, but it was not necessary to evacuate the apartments.

In contrast to the Böblingen operation, there were no injured people in Gärtringen, even though the material damage was estimated at around 150,000 euros. The extinguishing work lasted until the early hours of the morning, while the affected building was also cleared for ventilation.

While the cause of the fire in Böblingen is still unclear, the fire department remains on standby to help any residents who may be affected. More information is expected as the investigation into the cause of the fire begins. However, the situation in the affected block gives reason to hope that all residents remain safe.
