New pop-up recycling centers in Weissach and Flacht: Recycling made easy!

The Böblingen waste management company (AWB) has expanded its range of recycling options. Since the beginning of April 2025, two pop-up recycling centers in Weissach and Flacht have been available to citizens. This measure became necessary after the regular recycling center was closed in order to ensure that recyclables could be dropped off locally. The new locations are located next to depot container spaces for glass, cans and old textiles, which can be used daily.

In Flacht, at the sports field, citizens can drop off their recyclables on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In Weissach, on Bahnhofstrasse, the containers are available on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Containers are provided at both locations to separately collect and safely dispose of light packaging, paper and cardboard. The staff on site ensures that the drop-off is carried out properly.

Delivery of materials

The lightweight packaging containers accept a variety of materials. This includes:

  • Getränkekartons und Papierverbunde
  • Kunststoffflaschen
  • Kunststofffolien
  • Sonstige Kunststoffverpackungen
  • Aluminiumverpackungen

Cardboard boxes, corrugated cardboard and paper can be placed in a separate cardboard container. These measures are part of the problem of waste management, which is also important at the national level. Loud Destatis Plastic waste represents a significant portion of total waste. Germany's annual waste balance shows that plastics are cataloged under different key numbers.

The controlled separation of recyclable materials takes place after they have been handed over. Lightweight packaging is processed in the AWB sorting facility in Leonberg and handed over to the dual systems for further recycling. The contents of the cardboard containers are sorted according to the different types of paper in the paper sorting plant in Sindelfingen.

Regulations for the submission

The AWB urgently points out that no recyclables or rubbish may be left at the containers outside of the stated opening hours. This is important to ensure proper disposal and order at the drop-off points.

In addition to the pop-up recycling centers, the region offers a variety of other recycling centers that offer different collection times and services for types of waste such as electronic devices, pollutants or old textiles. An overview of these offers can be found at awb-bb.de.

Overall, the AWB is not just about collecting waste, but also about raising citizens' awareness of environmental protection and recycling. Networking local disposal options helps to reduce the amount of improperly disposed waste and emphasizes the responsibility of each individual in waste management.
