SHOCK in Leonberg: Poststrasse becomes a traffic jam chaos! Construction work will start soon!
A truly SHOCKING drama unfolds in the idyllic town of Leonberg, where the transformation of Poststrasse not only excites citizens, but also symbolizes failed plans and unexpected twists in the city's development! On September 8, 2025, it was announced that construction work to transform this important artery will begin following the completion of the impressive Bosch Campus construction on September 15, 2025. But that's not all: there is a threat of a COMPLETE CLOSURE, which could have catastrophic effects on road users and residents!
Unforeseen events overwhelm the plans! In the first construction phase, the area between the Römerstrasse roundabout and the access to the Bosch parking garage will be COMPLETELY SEPARATED. The construction work, which is scheduled to last until mid-December 2025, is intended to guarantee a MORE ATTRACTIVE and SAFE design of Poststrasse, but the city administration is facing massive challenges, especially since diversions via Römerstrasse, Gebersheimer Strasse and Brennerstrasse are unavoidable. In the midst of this turbulence, the commercial establishments on Maybachstraße remain accessible via Reinhold-Vöster-Straße.
The CONTROVERSY surrounding the shared space concept!
With the aim of creating a “shared space” for cars, pedestrians and cyclists, the redesign is causing waves of OUTRAGE. Local councilors are calling for a comprehensive REVIEW of plans after Bosch suddenly stopped construction of an additional building with a canteen and congress hall! The Greens are combative and argue that the conditions for the planned shared space are completely in jeopardy without the second building. The city could expect a loss of up to 500,000 euros - a SUM that would be sorely missing from the city's budget!
An astonishing 864,000 euros are planned for the redesign of Poststrasse, with 60% coming from funding. Nevertheless, the remaining amount of around 346,000 euros remains a big ALARM sign for the city administration. Things are getting hotter because without the second building, the threat of non-significant foot traffic is REAL!
A desperate appeal to the city!
The head of the department for innovative and intermodal mobility has already made a dramatic appeal so as not to endanger the project as a whole. After all, planning costs of 150,000 euros have already been invested. Stopping the project would not only undermine the cooperation agreement with Bosch, but would also jeopardize the urgently needed funding. This would be a DISASTER for the city!
The city administration must also review the costs of relocating water and gas pipes and creating plant oases, which are estimated to cost 158,000 euros. The NUANCE of savings is at stake!
A shared space is more than just a traffic concept! Members of the VCD (Verkehrsclub Deutschland) are calling for strong support from the federal and state governments to improve the quality of life and safety on the roads. Let's see that cities in Germany that are already considered pioneers in this movement, such as Duisburg and Stuttgart, have actually achieved positive results. The VOLUME and POSSIBILITIES of a new, dynamic road environment are not easy to ignore!
The city of Leonberg is now facing a decisive TEST that could shape the cityscape for the next few years. The questions are: Will the Poststrasse actually become safer? Can shared space bring the desired result? One thing is for sure: Leonberg will continue to be in the MEDIA FOCUS as events unfold!
