Katharina Reiner: The lightning-fast puzzle master from Germany!
On February 8th and 9th, 2025, the first German Puzzle Championship took place in Leonberg near Stuttgart, which was organized by the First German Puzzle Association and sponsored by Ravensburger. With over 360 participants in individual mode and specially compiled puzzles that were not commercially available, the championship attracted numerous puzzlers from all over Germany. The event was fully booked since the end of November and offered a total of 960 competitive puzzles with more than 500,000 puzzle pieces, presenting a huge challenge for participants.
The best individual puzzlers competed against time in Speed Puzzle mode. Katharina Reiner from Schwäbisch Hall particularly stood out and set a new record with a time of 38:55 minutes. She won the individual competition and now leads the list of the fastest puzzlers in Germany. In addition to Reiner, Nina Schicks and Denise Bode also achieved excellent times of 42:56 and 43:16 minutes, which brought them into second and third place. This shows the strong competition in the German puzzle scene and the growing interest in this hobby, which became even more popular during the Corona pandemic SWR reported.
Classic in team and pair mode
In addition to the individual mode, there was also a fight for the best times in the pairs mode. The two puzzlers Nina Schicks and Anna Menges won here with an impressive time of 26:11 minutes, followed by Paulina Schlinker and Lara Geppert as well as Stefanie Bühler and Lena Malinowski, who achieved confident placings.
In team mode, which required teams of three to four people to solve both a 1,000-piece and a 500-piece puzzle, “The Fast Four” team came out on top with a time of 1:03:34 hours. Teams like “Piece-Thagoras” and “Puzzlepiraten” also performed well and finished the competition in under two hours.
The event was not only watched by numerous spectators on site, but was also streamed live on YouTube, which further increased interest in the event. The best puzzlers also qualified for the upcoming World Championships in Spain, which have been taking place in Valladolid since 2019.
Ravensburger and the blossoming of puzzles
Ravensburger, as the main sponsor of the championship and the largest puzzle manufacturer in Europe, made a significant contribution to the success of the event. The company, founded in 1883, employs around 2,483 people and achieved sales of 790 million euros in 2024. With around 3,000 different motifs, Ravensburger delivers around 25 million puzzles every year, demonstrating the popularity and growth of this hobby.
In addition to the championship, Puzzleverein Deutschland is planning other events, such as a Puzzlevon event on May 10, 2025, which will also have a great response in the puzzler community. This reinforces the club's commitment to promoting and spreading the passion for puzzle playing in Germany.
For those interested, the Puzzle Club Germany is still active - the number of members has increased from 18 to 235 since it was founded a year ago, which underlines the growing interest in competitions and collaborative puzzle-solving.
