Five new violence protection trainers: Safety for children in Böblingen!
On June 4, 2025, the SV Böblingen karate department took a significant step in violence protection work. Five trainers in the department have successfully completed their training to become violence protection trainers, which was licensed by the Baden-Württemberg Karate Association. This training took place over two intensive weekends and included comprehensive content focused on the safety of children, girls, women and specific professional groups. Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports on the trainers' clear goal of strengthening children's self-confidence and giving them rules of behavior to convey without causing fear.
The training was divided into two parts. The first part focused on imparting basic knowledge of violence protection and legal aspects, including practical exercises through role play. In the second part, the focus was specifically on working with children aged 8 to 10. An important element of this work is the involvement of parents to further support the learning process. For older students, the program includes discussions to promote understanding of violent situations and their emotional consequences.
Preventive measures and future courses
The trainers at SV Böblingen have recognized that protection from violence and self-assertion are preventive measures that can contribute to the de-escalation of conflicts. For this reason, the karate department plans to offer targeted violence protection courses for children and students as well as for girls and women.
In a similar context, the training to become a “B-Trainer for Violence Prevention”, which was introduced in the German Olympic Sports Confederation in 2008 under the Bavarian Karate Federation, has already gained in importance throughout Germany. This training, which was completed by Christian Gembe and Veronika Steiner, among others, focuses on programs for children and young people in special situations as well as self-defense for men and women of all ages. [Budokan Martial Arts School](https://kampfkunstschule-budokan.de/index.php/trainings-angebote/selbst Defense-und-violentpraevention) emphasizes that several Budokan trainers have undergone this additional professional training and thus also contribute to the training of new trainers in protection against violence.
In Budokan, basic self-defense techniques such as striking and release techniques, levers, throws and the basics of ground combat are taught. The self-defense training is aimed at people of all ages and is based on the individual needs of the participants. A trial training session is offered at any time to make it easier to get started. The “SmartGuard Civil Kyusho Defense” concept is aimed at civilians who are interested in fast and effective techniques without having to delve into traditional martial arts.
The current development in SV Böblingen and the training to become a violence protection trainer signal an important step towards greater awareness of self-defense and protection against violence among young people and their carers. These initiatives can help create a safe environment for everyone in the long term.
