SCANDAL in the care association: Is the dissolution imminent?
The clock is ticking mercilessly! The Altdorf-Böbingen-Freimersheim Nursing Association faces a dramatic crisis! The once thriving institution, founded in 1977 to support the Edenkoben-Herxheim-Offenbach social station and for home care, is in danger of disappearing into nothingness in 2027! What happened? The number of members has literally plummeted into the abyss! From 235 members in 2020 to just 199 at the end of 2024, that is a decline that could have catastrophic consequences for those in charge!
The sad loss of deceased members is primarily responsible for this decline, but that's not all! The club's leadership has not managed to attract younger people to become members, despite the ridiculous annual fee of only 19 euros! The lack of participation at the last general meeting is also shocking. Only 40 members, about 25% of the total membership, were present. A clear signal that the association is facing a failure in its original mission!
The drama countdown is on!
The chairwoman, Pastor Elke Wedler-Krüger, will retire in 2027 and the question of her successor is looming! Will someone from our own ranks have the courage to take over as chairman? Or will there even be a merger with Gommersheim? This would result in the >dissolution of both clubs< and require the founding of a new club - a shock for anyone who values the long tradition! The association could even be dissolved entirely if no viable solutions can be found by then.
However, the members are showing solidarity during this difficult time and have even decided to donate 250 euros each to the outpatient and inpatient hospice service in Landau. It is undisputed that the challenges in the nursing sector are growing tirelessly. The spirit of the association, founded as a system of mutuality, seems to be needed more than ever these days!
The future of care in the twilight?
The Nursing Association has a long and eventful history. Founded in 1903 in response to the disastrous social circumstances of the time, the club was a ray of hope in a dark reality. Back then, life expectancy was shockingly low at just under 50 years, but today we are fighting a new phenomenon – demographic change. More and more people need care, while at the same time the number of young people available to take on these tasks is dwindling.
The alarming reality after World War II, when the CPV reached its peak of 3,000 members, may soon be history. The demographic change is accelerating, the number of older people is increasing rapidly. Fewer and fewer young people are prepared to take on the tough demands of the nursing profession. Greater challenges, such as the lack of offspring and the ever-increasing costs of care, call for urgent action!
The shadows of the past and the gloomy prognosis of the future must be a sign! TheKPVfights for its existence. It remains to be seen whether this will also be the determination of the members and the new generation.
