Altdorf welcomes native Swiss local councilors: exchange that moves!
On September 30, 2025, the municipality of Altdorf received a delegation from the original Swiss cantons of Sarnen, Stans and Schwyz. The Altdorf local council took the opportunity to exchange ideas about the challenges and successful projects of the other communities. It is an annual tradition in which one canton takes responsibility for the meeting. This year Altdorf was the host.
MayorSebastian Züstemphasized the importance of regular exchange and the inspiration that comes from shared meetings. During previous visits, the Altdorf gentlemen had projects like thisAltdorfer Fiirabigand the rental bike system“nextbike”used as sources of inspiration. In order to strengthen the connection to Altdorf's old town, this year's visit included a walk along a section of the Altdorfer Tellsweg.
Exchange and meeting in Winterbergpark
The reception of the 26-member delegation took place in the picturesqueWinterberg Parkinstead of. Here the participants had the opportunity to visit the newly opened meeting area in Altdorf. This newly designed area promotes interactive communication and is a further step in the comprehensive development of locally impactful projects.
Before the day ended with a shared dinner, the positive discussions between the local councilors were acknowledged. Züst explained that everyone involved could benefit from and learn from each other. The next meeting is already in the starting blocks and will take place in the community in 2026Schwyztake place.
The Altdorfer Tellsweg
A special highlight of this year's meeting was Altdorfer Tellsweg, which officially opened on August 1, 2024. The path consists of 12 steles that lead visitors from Altdorf train station to the historic center. Each stele deals with an aspect of the Tell myth, connected to historical, economic or cultural aspects of Altdorf. QR codes on the steles provide access to in-depth digital content, allowing visitors to expand their knowledge.
The route is one and a half kilometers long and offers a flat route that can be completed in half an hour. Light footwear, a smartphone and, of course, a thirst for knowledge are the recommended items for this interactive tour, which not only serves to educate but also promotes a connection to the history of the region.
