New cycle path between Aidlingen and Dagersheim: Who knows?
The Böblingen district is planning to convert a steep cycle path between Aidlingen and Dagersheim. This cycle path currently has a gradient of over 17 percent, which makes it dangerous for many cyclists. In order to increase safety, the district wants to rebuild 370 meters of the cycle path and reduce the gradient. According to estimates, the cost of this project is 915,000 euros. However, there are concerns about its feasibility, not only because of financial aspects, but also because animals in the area could potentially be affected. This is reported by the District newspaper Böblinger Bote.
Another notable aspect is that the community of Aidlingen apparently was not properly informed about these plans. In a district council committee, a district councilor who also sits on the Aidlingen municipal council expressed his surprise that he was the only one informed about the planned measures. The initiative to defuse the cycle path was supposed to have already been completed in committee, but the district council asked for an postponement in order to create more clarity in the discussion.
Communication in focus
One reason for the information gap could be the change in the Aidlingen municipal administration. The new mayor, Helena Österle, only recently came into office and therefore may not yet have an overview of all the events. The head of the Office for Road Construction and Cycling, Wladimir Hahnstein, also made it clear that the Aidlingen local council had approved the dismantling of the existing cycle path in the past. This shows that there have been previous agreements that may no longer be in the consciousness of the new administration.
Another problem remains that Aidlingen did not want to take advantage of an on-site appointment offered by the district to inspect the controversial incline point. This lack of communication is increasingly becoming a central issue in the discussion about the cycle path situation and could influence the upcoming decisions in the district council.
Cycling planning in a national context
The conversion of the cycle path is in line with the National Cycling Plan 3.0, which was developed by the federal government as a strategy to promote cycling until 2030. The aim is to establish cycling as an attractive and safe means of transport and to increase the number of kilometers cycled. The plan defines four central pillars of cycling promotion and promotes the creation of seamless cycling networks and high-quality infrastructure. This could also be important for cycling planning in Aidlingen if the local actors seriously want to push forward the conversion. Further information about the National Cycling Plan can be found on the website Federal Ministry of Transport.
On Monday, October 13th, the district council will decide on the public and the defusing of the throat. The developments in Aidlingen are an interesting example of the challenges that already exist in cycling planning at the municipal level and which require clear communication and cooperation between the various institutions.
