New cycle path in Aidlingen: expansion planned with a flatter gradient!
A new cycle path is to be built at the Aidlinger town exit in the direction of Dagersheim. This was recently decided by the district council, the majority of which approved the project, but with reservations. The planned length of the cycle path is 370 meters and the project costs around 900,000 euros. This large sum caused criticism and was one of the challenges that persuaded some members of the district council to vote against the project. In total, there were 16 votes against and six abstentions, indicating the financial burden on taxpayers that this measure could cause Krzbb reported.
A central feature of the planned cycle path is the challenge presented by the 17 percent gradient. This climb represents a significant burden for cyclists, while drivers can cope with the height difference much more easily. The situation is described as well-known and notorious, particularly in the “Throat” area, which is known among cyclists for its steepness. For this reason, the Böblingen district is planning to change the route profile of the cycle route in order to reduce the gradient to a more bearable level of 7 percent. This would significantly improve safety and accessibility for cyclists Szbz added.
Details about the project
The new construction of the footpath and cycle path along the district road between Aidlingen and Dagersheim is seen as an urgent measure to minimize the risks for cyclists and encourage more people to cycle. The overwhelming approval in the district council shows the awareness of the need for improvements in the cycling network, even if the high construction costs of almost one million euros can seem counterproductive.

The approach to easing the gradient and improving cycling infrastructure is seen by many as a step in the right direction. It remains to be seen how the project will progress in implementation and whether concerns about costs and financial burden on taxpayers can be adequately addressed.
