Future of e-bike drives: ZF CentriX tests the competition from Bosch!

The new E-MTB motor CentriX from ZF Friedrichshafen could permanently change the competitive landscape in the e-bike segment. Experts have tested the engine and the results are impressive. Loud chip The CentriX shows high driving power and can compete in terms of performance with established systems such as Bosch and Shimano.

In the highest assistance level, the bike accelerates immediately and pedal assistance kicks in without delay. Test reports confirm the positive response of the drive and praise the harmonious interaction with the driver's personal pedaling. Even when switched off, the bike is comfortable to ride; There is no noticeable difference when pedaling. The motor operates with low noise, making the CentriX quieter than competing systems.

Technical details and performance

The CentriX is a series-ready unit that will be used in the Raymon Tarok E-MTB. It has a diameter of 88 mm and weighs only 2.5 kg. With a maximum power of 600 watts and a torque of 90 Nm, it provides reliable support in practice, especially on short inclines. With a system voltage of 48 volts, the motor offers four support levels: Eco, Active, Sport and Boost.

Loud Bike The CentriX can be equipped with two battery options: either 504 Wh or 756 Wh, which are secured in the down tube. During the tests, the engine performed consistently on the test bench and maintained power even at high pedaling frequencies. Despite powerful tests, no significant heating of the engine was detected, which speaks of the reliability of the engine.

Competition and future developments

While the CentriX has many strengths, there are still challenges. Compared to Bosch and Shimano, the weight of the ZF motor is lower, but the range is reduced. For example, the 756 Wh battery only provides energy for 1560 meters of altitude on a gradient of 12.2%. For 2025, ZF is also planning new features such as individualized support, over-the-air updates and theft protection.

The test results and feedback on a possible market entry indicate that the CentriX has both strengths and weaknesses. Long-term experience and tests under high continuous loads are still pending, but the first impressions are promising and could put established providers in the e-bike scene under pressure.
