Shooting trial in Zuffenhausen: Porsche on alert!

There is still great uncertainty in the Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart due to criminal activities that have had a major impact on the region in recent years. The ongoing trial surrounding an assassination attempt on a suspected gang leader is causing additional concern, especially for companies like Porsche. This shooting, which took place on March 17, 2023 and in which a suspected leader of a multi-ethnic group was critically injured, occurred just 600 meters from Porsche headquarters. The suspicion that this attack was carried out by an enemy clique increases concerns about security in the neighborhood. According to Stuttgarter Nachrichten, a Porsche trainee was even an eyewitness to the incident and reported that he was narrowly escaped an assassination attempt.

The investigations by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) against two Stuttgart gangs have been dragging on for two years. As part of these investigations, prison sentences of over 120 years have already been imposed and the series of shots in Zuffenhausen continues. The gangs affected come not only from Stuttgart, but also from Esslingen, Ludwigsburg, Zuffenhausen and Göppingen, which shows a wide network of criminal structures. According to SWR, the incidents have been taking place since 2020, starting with an incident in which a man aimed an air pistol at a group of people. The violence escalated over the years, with shootings at a car in July 2022 and a particularly serious incident in March 2023 that left the victim in a wheelchair ever since.

Critical situation in Zuffenhausen

The situation in Zuffenhausen has caused great uncertainty among residents. Police have made 93 arrests and over 300 searches in the last two years. During these operations, officers seized 36 firearms and over 200 other weapons. An important raid took place in January 2024, during which, among other things, narcotics, knives, animal repellent spray and a fake firearm were found. Despite these measures, LKA President Andreas Stenger emphasizes that the fight against the gangs is far from over. According to SWR there are still criminal structures that continue to exist and make the police operation one of the longest measures in the history of Baden-Württemberg.

The violent crimes are predominantly committed by young men between the ages of 18 and 28. This phenomenon, coupled with a slight increase in violent crime in Baden-Württemberg, particularly among children and young people, is cause for concern. In order to counteract these developments, the police and politicians are relying on preventative measures to support children and young people at risk. Sports clubs and youth welfare facilities are included in the strategy to strengthen community and identity and thus have a positive influence on young people.
