Pilgrimage to Wemding: Pilgrims experience consolation and community in Maria Brünnlein
Today, May 22, 2025, around 50 believers from Wangen and the surrounding area made a pilgrimage to the important pilgrimage site Maria Brünnlein. After Altötting, this place is the most visited pilgrimage site in the diocese of Eichstätt. The pilgrims were personally welcomed by pilgrimage rector Norbert Traub, who invited the pilgrims on a spiritual journey. The holy mass took place at the fountain altar, where the miraculous image of Our Lady of Wemding can be seen. Fresh spring water flows from golden shells into four bowls at the altar, an impressive symbol of faith and hope.
In his sermon, Norbert Traub emphasized the central role of the Blessed Mother Mary as a guide and companion for believers. Under the motto “Pilgrims of Hope”, the pilgrimage took place in a context marked by global crises. Traub encouraged everyone present to ask the Blessed Mother for intercession in prayer and found clear words about the current world situation.
Shared experience and meal
After the holy mass, the pilgrims gathered at the “Zur Ente” inn to have lunch together. As planned, the trip should then lead to the Roggenburg monastery church near Ulm. However, the following May service could not take place in the church because renovation work made the chapel inaccessible. Instead, the devotion was carried out creatively on the bus on the return journey from Roggenburg to Heimertingen near Memmingen.
At the end of the pilgrimage, a dinner was offered in the community. A special feature of the pilgrimage was the praying of the rosary, during which the pilgrims asked for peace and the intercession of Mary. Mediations and sung songs contributed to the joy and community experience of the pilgrimage, which greatly moved the participants. Many expressed excitement about the enriching experience upon returning to Wangen.
