Sautrog race in Wangen: tradition meets fun on June 28th!

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, the traditional Sautrog race will take place in the village club barn in Wangen, Waidhofen municipality (Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district). The event starts at 3 p.m., with registrations possible on site until 2:30 p.m. An entry fee of 10 euros is charged per team. The supporting program is varied: coffee and cake are available from 1 p.m., while grilled food is offered from 5 p.m. The awards ceremony starts at 8 p.m., followed by a party with bar service from 8:30 p.m. Pfaffenhofen Today reports that the Wangen village community was only founded in 2007 and is promoting traditional customs with this event.

The village community has set itself the goal of promoting cultural life in Wangen and organizing various events. This includes not only the Sautrog race, but also the annual May celebrations, the village festival and the Christmas market. These events are organized by various club members who support the local community. The solidarity among the residents is impressive, which is reflected in numerous work and community activities. Wangen Starnberg emphasizes that the founding of the village community on June 4, 1997 represents an important step in strengthening the sense of community.

Diverse events and traditions

Since 1993, the Wangen village festival has taken place annually on the third Saturday of July, another event organized by the village community. There are over 500 beer garden spaces available and numerous offerings such as grilled dishes, home-baked cakes and children's entertainment. When the weather is good, up to 1000 visitors can be welcomed. Similar to the Sautrog race, the village festival also experiences great interest and support from the village community, especially from the village festival committee. The musical accompaniment is provided by the Wangen-Neufahrn brass band.

The Christmas market in Wangen has been an insider tip among locals since 1988. Until 2007, it usually took place on the first Sunday in Advent and was originally limited to the Hanfstingl-Hof. Since 1998, the market has moved to the village center and offers handicrafts and Christmas treats. Organized by Gertrud Schober, the market’s motto “Small but nice” remains.

The Wangen village community is therefore not just a small association, but a central part of the social fabric of the community, which has made it its mission to preserve traditions and enrich cultural life. Anyone interested can find information about the event and other activities on the Wangen village community website.
